When your feeling depressed, down, blue or "lower than that stuff you scrape off the bottom of your shoe," the Enemy is whispering "silent assumptions" in the background of your mind. He is telling you that you are to some degree worthless, or have diminished value as a human being. Use the following arguments against Him when you feel this way:

Arguments Against Worthlessness or Depression:

  • No one or nothing can make me feel depressed—only agreeing with you, voice, can do that.
  • Depression can be totally controlled by what I say to the voice .
  • No matter what I do, I am still a worthwhile person.
  • I allow myself to feel depressed by agreeing with you, voicey, when you tell me that I am a no-good person.
  • I am a wonderful, delightful, and loveable person merely because I am alive.
  • If other people put me down I do not have to agree with their remarks.
  • Only the voice can put me in the pit; only I can get myself out.
  • My depression will continue until I begin to vigorously fight you.
  • By keeping me depressed, you have total control over me—I refuse to allow this to happen!
  • It is okay for me to feel sad or discouraged without getting depressed.

Emergency Plan

PREPARING

Others can do it, so can I.

I’ve done it before, I can do it again.

Only the voice can ruin this for me."

COPING

Relax: breathe naturally, release muscle tension, calm my mind.

Losing control is merely giving in to the Enemy.

If I keep fighting the voice I WILL WIN!

RELAXING

So what if it wasn't perfect, next time will be better.

I'm going to tell_____about my success.

Each time I fight the voice, I get stronger and stronger.

CONFRONTING

Stay organized - don't let the voice muddle my thinking.

I need to slooow down and take it step by step.

Any discomfort I feel is a signal to fight the voice.
